Should I do a “Selfie-Video?”

What video software should I use?

One of the biggest questions I get when training people about Video Marketing is, “What’s the best software to use?”

That is really a simple question to answer; Whichever one is easiest for you to use. I say you should start with the easiest because the idea is to get started NOW. If I tell you a high-end, super sophisticated software, that may take you months to learn, that not be whats good for YOU.

With that said, let’s look at a few options. But before I describe the software’s I use, let me warn you, some of the ones I use cost money. I say that jokingly, and also as a lesson. The fact of the matter is that there are a few software’s in the market that you can access for free. And by all means, if they can serve you, jump on them.

However, there are many software’s that cost money, for a reason. These are higher-end tools that will ultimately make you look like an expert without necessarily being one. In addition, these tools are extremely low cost. If you are running a business, because they are business tools, they are also business expenses. Ultimately, it pays to have the right tools.

Free Video Soft Wares

MS Movie Maker: If you are own a Windows OS computer, you may have a this software already loaded in your computer. If not, you can download this free software here.

Although it’s a free software, it is a very effective tool for making videos. It’s a basic video editing software that allows you to take any video file (MP4) and manipulate it so you can add transitions and text onto the video. To fully understand the capabilities of this program, download it, if you don’t already have it. Then go onto Youtube.com and search “Movie Maker Tutorials.” Spend a few minutes everyday practicing and you will be proficient within a short period of time.

IMovie is Apple’s version of Movie Maker. However, IMovie is much more feature rich.

Screencast O’matic: This soft ware is a screen capture soft ware. That means it captures and records whatever is on your computer screen. This is ideal for recording PowerPoint presentations. You simply prepare the presentation. Put it up on your screen. And talk your way through the presentation, from beginning to end. Very simple to use. This is an excellent way to get a message across. Many top marketers use this to do training or product presentation videos.

One thing to keep in mind is to have a good microphone. The microphone on most laptops just aren’t good enough to record without having major distortions. Most marketers who use this type of soft ware, also use a headset while using it.

Screencast O’matic can be used with Windows OS, Apple, and even IPads.

LightWorks: This is considered to be, by many, the best free video editing software available. The good, is that it brings you many professional video editing features not found in other free software’s. The bad, is that because it’s so feature rich, there is a learning curve. How long? That depends on how studious you are at learning. Overall, even if you are a slow learner, it really shouldn’t be more than a few weeks before you are using it proficiently. You can download Lightworks here.

Paid Software

Here is one of my favorite softwares. I use it often because it is extremely simple to use option. It is a complete, feature rich software, that allows you to make some very professional looking videos quickly and easily. My partner, Steve Wolbach (Your Friendly Public Adjuster), has been using this software very effectively. The software is VideoMarkerFX.

What is brilliant about this software is that within minutes, you can produce very entertaining videos, with almost zero technical skills. As I just mentioned, my partner Steve Wolbach, built a YouTube channel with over 180 videos, many with this software, within six months of starting his channel. He is now getting calls from all over the country because of his videos. Check out Steve’s YouTube channel with the link above.

Why I started with video marketing…

I could see the writing on the wall. I could clearly see that the Internet was going to become a powerhouse for marketers like myself. This was a decade back. The Internet already existed for several years, but I still hadn’t learn how to fully use it’s resources. So I did what I think any intelligent person would do. I set out to learn, find mentors, and add the skills.

As logical as that sounds, it wasn’t as easy as it seems. Why? Because every guru I learned from had a unique angle. One would talk about article marketing. The other would talk about blogging. And , yet another would talk about Podcasting. But it didn’t end there. Email marketing, Social media Marketing, Advertising on Google, Creating funnels, Writing Ebooks, and the list went on. My head was spinning out of control.

Is any one of these methods useful? Yes, they all are, depending on how you use them. Obviously, you don’t want to scatter your time and actions too much, but you do want to STRATEGICALLY use a set of these to help get your name and message out. But with that in mind, you have to narrow your focus on a few of these tactics to QUICKLY get your name out.

Do what they do…

Now let me return to my experience. As I was learning online marketing, I noticed that each of these gurus was using video marketing. Each was pushing their own unique strategy, but each of them was using video to get the name out. And when I finally came to that realization, that these gurus were all using video, I remembered something my Grandmother used to drill in my mind growing up. My Grandmother used say, “Listen to the people that are doing the things you want to do. But more importantly, observe their actions and follow their ACTIONS, and you will get the same results.” BINGO!

From that moment on, I focused my attention on learning and mastering video marketing. And as they say, the rest is history. I can honestly tell you that my email marketing, my blogging, my funnel building and everything else I do as part of my online marketing strategy DRAMATICALLY improved because of video marketing. It wasn’t a minor advancement… it was a quantum leap forward.

When the student is ready, the master will appear

Will you have the same experience? Truthfully, I can’t answer that for you. The expression is, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” At that time in my life, I was ready, willing and able to learn. I can tell you, other than a few physical variations, you and I aren’t too different. If I can do something, you could probably do the same. If I could learn something, you could probably learn it also.

The one thing that may set you and I apart is my willingness to try. I don’t care about failure. I’m not concerned with looking stupid in other people’s mind. I just don’t give those things much importance. I focus my attention on my advancement. Here is what I want you to take away from this blog post (lesson). In the beginning, EVERYTHING IS DIFFICULT BEFORE IT BECOMES EASY.

Yes, you might freeze up in front of the camera. So what? You might say the wrong thing. So what? You might even look stupid. SO WHAT? Here is a key lesson: You are going to fail when you first try something new. So what? Try it anyway. If you are just like that little kid you once were, you will get up after falling, adjust your balance, and take another step forward. That is how you learned to walk, isn’t it?

So become that inquisitive kid again. Don’t worry about falling. Giggle when you fall. Laugh it off. But challenge yourself into the next level. Challenge yourself into a new skill. Dare to be that person you envision. Life is meant to be lived, not feared. Live it now!

It’s your time to shine!

Do the impossible

“It’s impossible. The human body is simply not capable of such feats.” That was what the “experts” told us in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Unfortunately, many people believed them. Until one man, Vasily Alexeev, a Soviet weightlifter, did the impossible.

Prior to 1970, it was common knowledge that the human body couldn’t lift overhead over 500 lbs. It was impossible, or so we were told. Because we heard the “experts” drilling in our heads what they believed to be true, we believed it also. We believe it to the point that no one even tried to disprove it. No one but Vasily Alexeev. Not only did Vasily Alexeev not buy into the limitations imposed by the so called experts, and lift over 500 lbs overhead, he went on to lift over 640 lbs overhead.

As if that wasn’t amazing enough, here is an even more amazing thing: Since that courageous man performed that incredible feat, thousands of other weightlifters have done the same or greater. Did the human body suddenly get stronger world-wide? Or, were the so called experts wrong from the very beginning? And, because we believe them, we limited our abilities? Think about how powerful, or even better, how dis-empowering, the expert’s beliefs made others.

“So what does this have to do with Video Marketing?”

For many of us, our inner expert is convincing us that video marketing is an impossibility for us. Or maybe, a mentor or leader, someone we see as an expert is telling us that “it simply doesn’t work.” Don’t buy into that. Don’t allow yourself to short change your abilities. You are capable of extraordinary things. All that is required is that you commit to learning. Commit to adding the skill. Mustering up the courage to simply try.

Many people say to me, “Mike, I’m afraid of looking stupid. What if I do it and freeze up. I’ll look like a fool.” So what, you’ve attempted something new and you messed up. Big deal. That is normal. Messing up is how we get good at anything. Developing mastery in anything requires first attempting. Attempting something you are not familiar with, will undoubtedly lead to errors. Smart people don’t repeat errors too often. Instead, they learn and adjust. They tweak the errors to get on the right path. That is how we learn anything.

Forget the naysayers. Forget those that tell you it’s impossible. Shut down that voice in your head that is attempting to discourage you. Push forward anyway. Don’t give in to the negativity, either of an outside source, or yourself. Attempt it. Tweak it. Get energized by a mentor who is doing what you want to do. Don’t stop until you gain the skills. That is the path to mastery. That is how you do the impossible.

Years ago, having your own TV station, marketing your own business, and / or products, would have proven to be a costly proposition. Camera crews, production staff, editing teams, actors, unions, all stack up to be a major task to keep up with. But in today’s world, because of technology, having your own YouTube channel can be as good, and in some cases, even better than having your own TV station.

If technology has taught us anything, it’s that because of it’s rapid advancement, we are able to shorten and simplify things that required much more time, energy and know-how. These day’s even a sharp 10 year old can get famous with one quick and easy viral video.

This opens up opportunity for smart marketers to capitalize these technological breakthroughs. Forbes magazine tells us that at least 78% of online traffic is driven by video. It just makes sense to dive right into this new media if we want to expand our marketing and reach more people.

If you have a gmail email, you have a YouTube account

Many times people ask how to open a YouTube channel. The answer is surprisingly easy. If you have a gmail email, you have a YouTube account. However, if you intend to use your YouTube account for business, I highly suggest that you create a new YouTube account specific to your business. You won’t want to mix in vacation videos with your business videos. Keep it professional.

Four keys to establishing a solid YouTube business channel

Today we will address the power of having a well established YouTube channel. YouTube is leading the pack when it comes to the video revolution. So it only makes sense to use it’s platform to deliver our message. Here are four things to keep in mind when establishing your YouTube channel:

  • Pick an appropriate name: When naming you channel, pick a name that will reflect your views keyword choices as they are searching. I am a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster in NJ. I named my channel “NJ Public Adjuster.”  Why? Because I envision my customers searching Google and YouTube for “NJ Public Adjuster.” This simple strategy will get you top ranking IMMEDIATELY.
  • Design a relevant cover photo for your channel: Don’t skimp on design. Make your channel look as professional as possible. If you don’t know how to create the art work needed for your channel, invest a few bucks on getting a graphic designer. It’s not nearly as expensive as you think. But the final product and results will be well worth the expense.
  • Set up a welcome video: A welcome video is the video that greets every visitor to your channel. This is best done by design and not by default. By default, I mean that the most recent uploaded video will show on your channel home page. You can however have a video of your choice be set as your “preferred” video. I call this your welcome video. Use this video to describe your channel and start the process of getting your audience to warm up to you.
  • Focus on subscribers: The main idea with a YouTube channel is to build an audience. At every chance you get, you should be drilling the idea of subscribing to your channel. The more subscribers you get, the more valuable your channel becomes. Depending on your channel niche, other business entities may eventually be interested in purchasing the channel if it grows a large enough subscriber base.

Having a YouTube channel is a free way to position yourself to grow a very targeted audience. It’s time well spent for those that truly desire long-term success.

Dare to do. Your comments are always welcome.

Why aren’t more people doing video marketing?

Why aren’t more people using video to market their business? This is the #1 question I ask myself, and others.
Believe it or not, two key issues stand in between most people’s effort at video marketing.
  1. They fear that they don’t know how to do the “techie stuff.”
  2. They fear that they will look “stupid” on camera.

video marketing tips and tricksUltimately, both of these are REALLY just one huge obstacle: FEAR. Luckily, fear is not that big of a deal, as long as you can get yourself to take action. Move beyond the fear. Face it and do it any way.

Let’s look at how these two fears are in fact, “Self-Imposed.”

Fear of the techie stuff: If video marketing was important enough, could you take 20 minutes a day to learn how to do it? Is learning how to manipulate software, easy software at that, an impossibility for you? Not only is it not, you’ve probably learned much more difficult stuff in the past.

Fear of looking stupid: This insidious fear rears it’s ugly face whenever we attempt to go out of our comfort zone. The truth is that every time you do something new, you are going to be uncomfortable. That is part of the process. It comes with the territory. It’s part of the growth process. Totally avoiding the feelings of discomfort is a prison of your own making.

So when it’s all said and done, picking up the skills of a video marketer are well worth the time and effort. If you commit just a few minutes daily, within a short period of time YOU WILL MASTER this skill. Push yourself. Find the right mentors. Dare to look foolish. And soon, others will look at you with a new sense of admiration, simply because you did what others were afraid to do.

Remember, “It’s your time to shine!”
